How can I prepare my home for the winter months?

As the colder months approach, it’s important to prepare your home for winter. You can do this by:

Checking your thermostat

Make sure your thermostat is working correctly.

Set it to a comfortable temperature, usually around 18-21°C.

A faulty thermostat can cause your room to be too hot or too cold. It will not send a signal to the valve that allows the radiators to heat up.

Alternatively, a thermostat that cannot read the room temperature could allow your home to get hotter and hotter. This can be very frustrating as you may only be able to have your home extremely warm or very cold.

Remember some thermostats are battery operated if there is a digital screen with no display, please check the batteries.

Test your appliances

Test all your gas and electric appliances to ensure they're working efficiently. Do not wait until winter when you need them the most.

We advise you to check that your boiler works while the weather is still relatively mild. You do not need to use it for long – just turn it on for long enough for your radiators to heat up.

Have your boiler serviced

If you have not had your boiler serviced in the last 10 months, contact us to book an appointment.
