Can I install a CCTV doorbell on my property?
If you're thinking of using a domestic CCTV doorbell to protect your home, please make sure that it only captures images within the boundary of your property.
If your doorbell captures images outside the boundary of your property – for example into a neighbours home or garden, a communal area, footpath or street then you need to make sure that you comply with the requirements set out in the Data Protection Act 2018.
If you're capturing images beyond your property boundary, you'll need to:
• have a clear and justifiable reason for doing so
• let your neighbours know you're using CCTV and put a sign up by your front door
• make sure that nobody else can watch it without good reason
• only keep the footage for as long as it is needed and delete it securely
