How do I end the tenancy on behalf of someone who has passed away?

The first step is to contact our customer service centre to let us know the date when you would like the tenancy to end.

We'll then send you a letter giving you the agreed move-out date. Usually, the notice period is one week. However, if you need more time, get in touch with us to discuss this.

The next part of the process is to:

  1. Sign and return the confirmation of ending a tenancy form sent via email

  1. Send us a copy of the death certificate

  1. Send us a copy of your power of attorney (if relevant)

  1. Return all the keys for the property, including:

  • Front door keys

  • Back door keys

  • Fobs

  • Window keys

  • Communal door keys

  • Gate keys

  • Carpark keys

  • Storage keys

Without taking the three actions above, we cannot officially end the tenancy, and the rent account will still be active.

We'll not charge you for the overall outstanding balance. Any remaining balance after the tenancy has ended will be claimed from the estate and not the next of kin or executor handling the tenancy.
