How can I keep my personal information safe?

L&Q and our partners will never ask you to confirm your identity by asking for your bank details or other sensitive information.

To reduce the risk of being a victim of scams or fraud, it’s important that you always keep your personal information safe. It’s also important you know what to do to report any suspicious communication.

Keep your personal information safe

Never give out personal details, such as your name, address, phone number, banking username or password on the phone or email.

Before you share information with another person or organisation, including at your workplace, a business, your child's school, or a doctor's office, always enquire about their need for it, how they will keep it secure, and the consequences of not sharing. If in doubt, verify the need and advise you will call back or contact via their official website.

You should also shred or securely dispose of receipts, credit offers, credit applications, insurance forms, cheques, bank statements, expired charge cards, and similar documents when you don’t need them any longer.

How to spot a scam and report it

Some possible signs of a scam include:

• An unexpected call or email asking for personal information
• An email out of the blue that asks you to click on a link and / or attachment
• Communication from a company you don’t usually deal with
• A ‘pushy’ or persistent call or email that promises something you’re unaware of – this could be reward or a threat.

Don’t attempt to respond to suspicious communication or click on the links or attachments in these types of emails.

If you think you’ve received suspicious communication from somewhere claiming to be us, you should report it to us immediately via the customer service centre.

You should also report it immediately to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at www.actionfraud.police.uk
