How do I prevent condensation and mould?

To prevent condensation and mould you should try and maintain a constant balance of warmth and ventilation in your property, we recommend:

• drying washing outdoors or in the bathroom – with the door closed and a window open or an extractor fan running
• covering pots and pans when cooking
• switching the kettle off as soon as it starts to boil
• venting tumble dryers outside
• using extractor fans
• opening windows when you are using a room
• keeping trickle vents open – these are a very small opening in a window that allows ventilation
• when having a bath – filling it with cold water and then hot to avoid too much steam
• insulating and draught proofing your home
• when re-decorating – using a special damp or condensation paint
